The FBI Las Vegas Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBILVCAAA) is proud to lead the fight against elder fraud through our dedicated community outreach and education initiatives. Our 'Fraud Alert' program provides seniors with critical information about current scams and practical strategies to protect themselves from financial exploitation.
We are excited to announce our partnership with the FBI Las Vegas Field Office to launch the 'Fraud Alert' initiative, designed to protect seniors from financial scams and schemes. Our inaugural presentation was a tremendous success, reaching over 120 seniors at the Sun City Aliante Community Center.
The FBI is dedicated to ensuring that our senior community is well-informed to safeguard against financial scams and schemes. In partnership with the FBILVCAAA's 'Fraud Alert' initiative, we are committed to delivering informative and enjoyable presentations.
According to recent data from the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), financial losses due to senior fraud reached $1.6 billion from January to May 2024, an increase of nearly $300 million compared to the same period in the previous year.
Would you like to help protect seniors in our community? Contact us to learn about volunteer opportunities or to schedule a presentation for your organization.
Our educational programs focus on teaching seniors to identify common red flags, including unsolicited calls requesting immediate payment, offers that seem too good to be true, pressure to act quickly, requests for payment in gift cards or cryptocurrency, and communications with poor grammar or unusual phrasing.
If you or someone you know may have fallen victim to senior fraud, it's important to take action. Contact the Las Vegas FBI office or file a report on ic3.gov. Be sure to keep records of the scammer's name or the company involved, how you were contacted, and details of any payments made.
